KEY POINTS

  • Offers snapshot of time played and user's most popular games
  • Tallies My Nintendo Gold Points from purchases made across 2019
  • Currently available to Nintendo users in North America only

Nintendo has followed Spotify’s lead and is giving gamers a way to reflect on their year of gaming on the Switch.

The year-in-review tool went live on Nintendo’s website Wednesday, allowing Switch owners to reflect on their time playing the unique system. Players can see how much time they spent playing on the system to the hour, the number of games enjoyed, and what was the most played game in someone’s library.

However, Nintendo’s year-end review site takes into account time beyond just 2019, going all the way back to the first time someone booted up the Switch and the first game played. It’s a small departure from similar services, such as Spotify’s, which focuses on users’ activities for the single year.

Players will also see how many My Nintendo Gold Points earned in 2019. Gold Points are typically earned through purchases of games and DLC, with the most coming through digital purchases. Switch owners can then turn around and use these points to help pay for more games and items through the Nintendo eShop.

Depending on what is found, the site will also tailor ads to fit the tastes and games players were found to enjoy on the system the most. For example, if someone spent the most time playing Mario-centric titles like “Super Mario Odyssey” or “Super Mario Party,” the site would promote other Mario related titles like “Luigi’s Mansion 3.”

It has only been made available to North American Nintendo users as of Dec. 18.
