Canadian medical equipment maker Noveko International Inc's fourth-quarter loss widened, hurt by a goodwill impairment charge.

Net loss for the fourth quarter was C$12.6 million, or 19 Canadian cents a share, compared with a net loss of C$9.4 million, or 17 Canadian cents a share, in the year-ago period.

The company recorded a goodwill impairment charge of $3.6 million related to its medical equipment segment, partly to reflect the economic slowdown.

Revenue rose 45 percent to C$3.4 million.

The company said revenue from its filtration products segment increased as a result of the acquisition of Micron-Air and Purer Life and the new distribution agreements in the livestock farms market.

Shares of the Montreal-based company fell 3 percent to C$2.25 in early morning trade Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
