An elderly man in Ohio was stabbed to death inside a car by his wife who failed in an attempt to kill herself. The incident is believed to be a case of attempted murder-suicide.

According to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger, the victim, identified as 82-year-old Bobby L. Mims, was killed in Dayton on Tuesday (June 16). Mims suffered multiple stab wounds. His death was ruled a homicide.

Officials from the Dayton police responded to the intersection of Main and Locust streets after a caller reported about a murder and an attempted suicide. The officers found Mims and a woman inside a vehicle. The woman was attempting to kill herself by drinking bleach.

The caller said "his mother had killed his father and was attempting to kill herself,” Dayton homicide unit supervisor Sgt. Mike Godsey told Dayton Daily. “The female was trying to ingest bleach, so the officers forced their way into the car to prevent the female from causing additional harm to herself.” The identity of the caller was not known.

The officers gained entry into the vehicle and found Mims unresponsive. Dayton fire crews responded to the situation. Mims was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman, whose identity was not revealed, was rushed to a nearby hospital. According to the police, she is now in stable condition.

The case was being investigated by the homicide unit who will present the case to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office. The charges imposed in the case will be revealed after the completion of the procedure.

In a similar case of attempted murder-suicide reported earlier this year, a South Carolina man shot himself to death after shooting his wife. The responding officers found the man dead and the woman injured. The victim’s identity was not revealed. The son of the couple reported about the shooting. He told officers that he heard his mother screaming his name and immediately rushed to help her. He found her lying on the ground with a gunshot wound below her chest. The woman was rushed to the hospital. She was expected to make a full recovery.
