A dog was shot dead by a deputy after the canine seriously injured its owner. The incident took place in Braceville Township, Ohio, Thursday.

According to local reports, deputies responded to a home on Eagle Creek Road after a neighbor called 911 and informed he heard screams coming from the residence.

“I think the dog was attacking something or somebody or another animal inside the house because the mother was screaming and I think she passed out because I could hear them screaming, ‘Mom passed out,'” the neighbor told the dispatchers.

The responding officers found 37-year-old Tiffanne Goncz with multiple bites on her legs. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment with serious injuries. Her condition remained unknown.

Meanwhile, the dog, which was believed to be dead after the woman’s husband shot it, charged toward the man, forcing a deputy to shoot the canine. The dog died on the spot.

Trumbull County Chief Deputy Joe Dragovich said, “You have to make quick decisions in a split second and our deputies acted in a way that kept folks safe that were still there.”

The deputies spoke to the neighbors as part of the investigation. They told them this wasn’t the first time dogs from the residence had created a nuisance. Goncz was previously charged three times with a dog at large and was scheduled to appear in court next month for the case that was opened two months ago.

The incident occurred two months after an Ohio police officer shot two aggressive dogs after they charged at him. Police responded to the scene after receiving reports about a pack of four dogs running loose. One of the dogs charged at the unnamed officer at the scene following which he immediately fired at the canine which died on the spot. Suddenly, another dog charged at him. He shot the canine in the leg.
