  • A security researcher uncovered Twitter's possible native coin
  • The Twitter Coin icon could be related to the crypto integration tipping feature
  • Musk notes bringing crypto to Twitter is a "no-brainer"

Twitter is probably working on its own cryptocurrency dubbed "Twitter Coin," a security researcher has claimed.

In addition, the rumors spread that the social media giant may be planning to integrate crypto payments into the platform.

According to blogger and researcher Jane Manchun Wong, a code from the recent version of Twitter showed a vector image depicting the Twitter Coin, which she shared on her account. Wong also leaked the Twitter API showed the coin icon section within Twitter's "Tips" settings.

Soon after Wong's tweet leak, her social media profiles on Twitter, and LinkedIn were removed.

"It isn't rolled out yet; there is little information out there as to what this is exactly," Wong told The Block in a message.

It is unknown as to why she deleted her LinkedIn account. However, Wong wrote on Mastodon she herself had deleted her Twitter account as she was experiencing "an increased amount of casual racism and sexual harassment" for breaking insider secrets about features in progress.

Elon Musk's new crypto coin to outshine DOGE?

In a Twitter Spaces podcast hosted by Mario Nawfal, Twitter chief Musk confirmed interests in integrating crypto payments.

"It's kind of a no-brainer for Twitter to have payments, both fiat currency and crypto, and to make that easy and simple for people to use," he noted.

Musk also believes that crypto assets will ultimately find a foothold on global monetary policies.

"I do think there is a role for crypto in the future without speaking to any particular crypto coin, as a means of ensuring that the monetary system does not get completely corrupted. It essentially provides competition to the fiat system. So if the fiat system becomes overly restrictive, crypto will grow."

Musk, who has been highly vocal on the meme coin – DOGE – seems to be focusing on multiple cryptos. A proprietary coin from Twitter could, however, sound to trump DOGE or Bitcoin, as it would possibly eliminate the need for BTC and DOGE integrations. Also, a crypto wallet integration from Twitter might benefit the whole of the crypto industry, especially at a time when markets are down.
