Paul Rudd is finally joining the Avengers. Though he fought alongside Team Cap in “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Endgame” will be his first film where Ant-Man is fighting alongside the superheroes to defeat a villain. Rudd, however, already knows what it’s like to be a part of a pop culture phenomenon.

“It’s exciting to be a part of the thing, to be a part of something that so many people are interested in and see,” he said in the May 2019 print issue of Empire magazine. “It’s compounded by the surreal vibe of the whole thing. I am part of something that I have watched as a fan.”

He added that it’s comparable to when he joined NBC’s “Friends” as Mike, Phoebe’s (Lisa Kudrow) love interest. Rudd joined the show for the final two seasons.

“The only thing I’ve ever experienced that is even somewhat comparable is working on ‘Friends’ in Season 9 where this thing was a juggernaut,” he noted. “Then I show up and I’m a very small part of it. Now it’s the same thing—I’m a very small part, but existing in something huge. It’s very exciting.”

Rudd might feel like he’s a small part, but his character Scott Lang/Ant-Man is thought to be a key player in the movie.

[Spoiler Alert: Potential plot points for “Avengers: Endgame” are discussed below.]

The Quantum Realm, a major plot point in “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” could be the key to undoing Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) decimation, which wiped out half the universe. Fans believe they could use the Quantum Realm to go back in time. They have theorized that this is why the white Advanced Tech suits look similar to Ant-Man’s costume. These suits may be used for the whole team to go into the Quantum Realm.

“Avengers: Endgame” hits theaters April 26.
