Pink recently reflected on how she could have supported Britney Spears during the early years of their careers when they were pitted against each other. The 41-year-old singer also slammed the “traumatic” paparazzi’s treatment of the pop icon at the time.

The "Just Give Me a Reason" singer appeared on "Watch What Happens Live" on Thursday, where a fan asked her what she feels about Spears after a New York Times-Hulu documentary, “Framing Britney Spears,” highlighting the upsetting events faced by the “Toxic” singer was released.

“I love Britney, and here's the thing about all of us voyeurs—none of us know what's going on,” Pink said. “We're not there. And I would like to. I think we all would like to, and we feel this fierce protectiveness over her, for good reason—she's a sweetheart. All I know is she's incredibly sweet, and I want her to be happy.”

When the show’s host, Andy Cohen, asked Pink if she had seen the documentary, the singer replied: “I did, and I felt sad that back then, back in the early days, I didn't know...I'm a strong person—I could have reached out more. I could've — I don't know.”

Pink said she wished that she could have been a support system for Spears, 39, when she needed it the most. “I don't like feeling helpless or powerless, and I can only imagine how she feels, and she could have used some support,” Pink continued.

“And the media tore her apart, and the paparazzi are scum, and I wish I could have reached out and gave her a hug.”

The documentary surrounding Spears' life was released recently, taking us through her struggles and popularity through almost three decades in the show business. However, the singer wasn’t impressed. In an Instagram post earlier this May, Spears said that stated she's "deeply flattered" that people care about her life so much, but expressed that she believes upcoming documentaries "with other people's takes" about her life are "hypocritical."

"These documentaries are so hypocritical… they criticize the media and then do the same thing,” she posted at the time. "Why highlight the most negative and traumatizing times in my life from forever ago????"

During an Instagram Q&A last month, Spears assured her fans that she is doing “just fine.”

“Yes, I'm totally fine. I'm extremely happy, I have a beautiful home, beautiful children,” said the singer, who has two sons, Jayden James, 14, and Sean Preston, 15, with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
