Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke spoke of the developer’s plans for “Pokémon GO” this year when he attended the Mobile World Congress early this month. This week, he is scheduled to make another public appearance to talk about the famous augmented reality mobile game at the SXSW (South by Southwest) Conference & Festivals in Austin, Texas.

Hanke is set to hold his own conference at the annual event this Friday, March 10. He is one of the speakers of the Augmented Reality and Urban Revitalization conference at the JW Marriott in Salon 8 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Given that the conference will focus more on augmented reality, Hanke could once again be reiterating what he shared early this week about AR glasses and the company’s desire to provide support to “relevant devices” that could offer more practical means of playing “Pokémon GO.”

Hanke has already confirmed that three major updates are coming to “Pokémon GO” this year. He has also shared what each update is going to feature. Since he already mentioned that the next major update is going to focus on reworking how the Gym system works, it’s possible that he’s sharing more info or dropping hints about this feature during his conference.

Meanwhile, aside from Hanke, another person who is also very invested in all things “Pokémon GO” is attending this year’s SXSW. He is none other than Nick Johnson, the first Trainer to catch them all in the augmented reality game. Johnson is part of the Pokémon GO & Social Gaming Meet Up on March 18 at the Austin Convention Center. The conference he is attending is for dedicated players of Niantic’s famous app, game developers and anyone who is interested in social gaming. It isn’t clear if Hanke will also show up at the meet-up.
