Niantic rolled out a slew of updates to Pokémon toward the end of 2016. But, it seems 2017 might not see a similar flow of constant updates to the game.

Mobilenapps says that even though Niantic is silent about the timing of its next Legendary Pokémon update, indications are that the update might be rolled around the spring season. It is interesting how they derived this conclusion.

Niantic's recent in-game events have all been festival themed and have offered merchandize according to the occasion being celebrated, such as a Pikachu with a Santa Hat, available in the company’s Christmas update.

Likewise, the Pokémon Go Legendary Pokémon update has three Legendary Pokémon in tow — Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos. All of these are bird Pokémon. The report says that these Pokémon might be a part of a spring themed event, as the presence of birds heralds the arrival of spring.

Another indication of the Legendary Pokémon update releasing this year is that the company has already outed the Gen2 and baby Pokémon. In fact, according to a Silph Road Pokémon Go community blog post published on Dec. 29, no evolved form of baby Pokémon have been available after Dec. 12, which again points to further Pokémon evolution in the game.

All in all, Niantic might be shifting from festival-themed updates in 2016 to seasonal updates in 2017.
