Prince Charles reportedly ruined Prince Harry’s christening from Princess Diana’s perspective.

The Princess of Wales was disheartened by Prince Charles’ tactless joke during their youngest son’s christening. The heir apparent reportedly approached Princess Diana’s mom and aired his disappointment for not having another boy, which upset the princess.

“Speaking to Andrew Morton in 1991 she [Diana] said: ‘Charles went to talk to my mother at Harry’s christening,” royal biographer Angela Levin recalled what Princess Diana said. “We were so disappointed - we thought it would be a girl.’ “Mummy snapped his head off, saying: ‘You should realise how lucky you are to have a child that’s normal.”

Prince Charles didn’t hide his disappointment following Princess Diana’s second delivery. According to Andrew Morton in his biography “Diana: Her True Story,” she was hurt when the future king exclaimed, “Oh God, it’s a boy.”

Prince Charles insisted that he was only joking with his reaction. However, the mother of two was hurt with his remarks because apparently, he wanted a girl for their second child. Meanwhile, Princess Diana had known all along that they were having another boy as she saw the scan but kept it a secret from Prince Charles.

Princess Diana didn’t get over Prince Charles’ cruel remarks about their second baby’s gender. She told Morton that after the said incident, “something inside me closed off.” Shortly after that, the Prince and Prince of Wales’ marriage broke down and ended up in divorce.

Meanwhile, Prince Philip had a hilarious reaction to newborn Prince Charles. According to French historian Fabrice D'Almeida, when the Duke of Edinburgh saw his firstborn, he reportedly looked at the baby Prince of Wales and compared him to a “plum pudding.”

Prince Charles grew up at the care of the royal staff. He was never close to the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh. He shared a closer bond to his grandmother Queen Mother compared to his parents.

Prince Harry wasn’t very close to Prince Charles either. However, he and his brother, Prince William, were very close to their mom, Princess Diana.

The two confessed that they were confused when they saw the public grieving for their mother’s death. Prince William wondered why they were so affected when they didn’t know her personally. However, over the years, he learned what Princess Diana gave to the world and understood why the public reacted that way.
