Prince Charles reportedly has plans to reform the monarchy just like another king who ruled it before him.

Royal expert Ted Powell said that Prince Charles’ predecessor, Edward VIII, also planned to carry out major changes in the House of Windsor when he was still alive.

While speaking with Express, the author of “King Edward VIII: An American Life” said that when the former king sat on the throne, he promised to give the people a decisive break from the traditional ways of his father George V. King Edward VIII also carried on the informal, democratic approach to his royal duties which he developed when he was the Prince of Wales.

“His formative experiences had taken place during and after World War I, when so many European monarchies had collapsed. He recognized that the House of Windsor’s position could not be taken for granted, it had to be positively sold to each generation,” he explained.

According to Powell, Edward VIII also saw the monarchy as a product or a brand that needed to be refreshed and marketed. He eventually discovered that he himself was a natural salesman. And as part of his rebranding process, Edward VIII was convinced that the crown needed to be modernized if it were to survive as a relevant institution rather than a historical relic in the 20th century.

In a similar way, Prince Charles has called for a reorganization to adapt the Windsors to the changes in the 21st century. The current Prince of Wales also called for a slimmed down monarchy, which could take away titles from some members of the royal family.

“The Royals,” a documentary on Netflix, claimed that Prince Charles particularly saw Prince Andrew as a liability to the royal family because he didn’t want to deprive his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, of their titles even though they are not working royals.

Prince Charles has also been accused of meddling with politics and religion. He has taken a stand on political issues such as climate change and has also expressed his desire to have a world where all religions are inclusive.
