Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s romance was initially thought to be a fairytale, but there was actually something creepy about it and how it all began.

Daniela Esler, a journalist for News.co.au, noted the fact that there was a huge age gap between the couple. Prince Charles was 29 years old when he first met Princess Diana, and the latter was just 16 years old.

At a young age, the late Princess of Wales was smitten with the future king. But it is important to note that not only did the couple have a 13-year age gap, but Princess Diana was also just a teenager when Prince Charles first saw her.

During their engagement interview in 1981, the heir to the throne revealed his thoughts after seeing Princess Diana for the first time.

“What a very jolly and amusing and attractive 16-year-old she was,” he said at that time.

However, this statement did not sit well with Esler who called it “gross.”

“He was nearly 30 years old at the time, a man who by that point was sexually experienced, while she was the virginal, teenage, younger sister of his girlfriend and there he was, thinking what an attractive young filly he was. The idea of an adult man ogling a teenage girl is really uncomfortable,” the journalist wrote.

When Prince Charles was 30 years old and Princess Diana was 17, he invited her to his birthday celebration. Prince Charles broke up with Lady Sarah later after she disclosed details about their relationship to the press. Tina Brown, a royal author, claimed that Prince Charles told Lady Sarah that she did something incredibly stupid.

On several occasions, Princess Diana received invitations to attend events where Prince Charles was also present. During one evening, after a long conversation, Prince Charles practically leaped on Princess Diana and the rest was history.

After their wedding in 1981, Prince Charles and Princess Diana welcomed their sons, Prince William, and Prince Harry.
