Prince Charles was recently spotted in a car without a seatbelt on. However, he was not the one driving the vehicle.

In a photo shared by Daily Mail, the heir to the throne can be sitting in the vehicle as he left St. Dunstan-in-the-West church in London. Prince Charles appeared to be a good mood when he waved at bystanders that greeted him.

Prince Charles’ sighting in a car without a seatbelt appears to be controversial simply because his dad, Prince Philip, was just involved in a car accident last month. Luckily for the 97-year-old retired royal, he didn’t suffer from injuries. But weeks after the incident, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband decided to give up his license.

The Crown Prosecution Service decided to not press charges against Prince Philip.

“We took into account all of the circumstances in this case, including the level of culpability, the age of the driver, and the surrender of the driving license. We have decided that it would not be in the public interest to prosecute,” Chief Crown Prosecutor Chris Long said in a statement (via US Weekly).

In related news, Queen Elizabeth II was also spotted driving without a seatbelt just days after Prince Philip’s accident. But according to a security expert, there may be an absurd reason why this is the case.

“Protection is a very unique area of policing and there are a lot of grey areas, but you are always judging each situation to weigh up the risks and threats with the outcomes you are trying to achieve,” Simon Morgan told Hello! magazine.

He said that the members of the royal family do not normally wear seatbelts if they are going to an important engagement. In this case, the Royals want to avoid crumpling their clothes.

Additionally, royals are also encouraged to not use seatbelts due to security reasons. In case of an emergency, it would be much easier to whisk them out of a vehicle if they didn’t have a seatbelt around their chest.
