Prince Philip’s attendance at Princess Eugenie’s wedding on Oct. 12 remains unconfirmed, and it may not have anything to do with Sarah Ferguson.

According to The Telegraph, the Duke of Edinburgh is currently on a “wake up and see how I feel” basis every day since he retired from his official engagements. Since he is already 97 years old, Prince Philip is unable to go out as often as he used to.

“The Duke of Edinburgh may not go to the wedding, just as he and the Queen did not attend Prince Louis’ christening in July. There’s not a three-line whip on these family occasions. Not unreasonably, when you consider his age, the Duke of Edinburgh will decide on the morning of the wedding if he’s going to be there,” a source said.

Prince Philip’s possible absence from Princess Eugenie’s wedding was reported just days after it was also revealed that Camilla Parker Bowles may skip the royal event due to an official engagement in Scotland. Both Prince Philip and Bowles were present when Prince Harry tied the knot with Meghan Markle on May 19.

Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding is being compared with Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s upcoming union ever since they announced their engagement. But Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal expert and commentator, told Express that both events shouldn’t be likened to each other.

“There is absolutely no comparison between the two. Hundreds of millions watched Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding – it was one of the weddings of the century. This will be a fashionable and joyous occasion, but the interest level will be totally different. They are having more guests but that is personal and also they are having members of the public in Windsor Castle. There will be a carriage procession, but it won’t be as long. It’s totally different – there really isn’t a comparison between the two,” he said.
