Prince William will not vacate Kensington Palace even if he’s required to move to Clarence House when Prince Charles becomes the new king.

When Prince Charles takes over the throne, he and Camilla Parker Bowles are expected to move to Buckingham Palace. On the other hand, the Duke of Cambridge will be the new Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall. Prince William’s new role requires him to move to Clarence House, but he might not do that.

According to Nicholas Bieber, a royal correspondent for Daily Star, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will remain in Kensington Palace when Prince Charles becomes the new king. If so, Clarence House might be vacated for another member of the royal family.

However, there’s also a possibility that Prince Charles, himself, will keep Clarence House for himself. According to Charlie Proctor, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have been living there for 15 years and considering their age, they might not want to leave their “perfect home.”

It was reported earlier that Prince Charles doesn’t like the Buckingham Palace and he even dubbed it the “big house.” Instead, the heir wishes the 775-room palace to be turned into a museum.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes that no matter what Prince Charles’ preference is, he will be forced to move to Buckingham Palace when he becomes the new king because it’s the “famous headquarters of the British monarchy.“

“Buckingham Palace connects the monarch to the people as no other landmark does,” Fitzwilliams explained.

The palace is also very important to the royals’ big events. For instance, the family appears on Buckingham Palace’s balcony for the monarch’s birthday to watch Trooping the Colour.

The palace also looks splendid when bedecked with flags during the head of the state visit. That’s not all, tourists flock there to witness the Changing of the Guard, which will have no purpose if the monarch will not be staying there.

In related news, Prince William has been preparing to take over Prince Charles’ role. The Duke of Cambridge has been attending secret meetings concerning his future role as the Duke of Cornwall because he is expected to manage the $1.2 billion estate that he will automatically inherit when the title is passed down to him.
