The royals are a smart bunch and this is apparent in their A-level grades.

According to Kate Williams, author of "Young Elizabeth," Her Majesty has never sat an academic exam in her life, but she's smart. Unlike her father who disliked schools, Queen Elizabeth II is keen to learn.

"The Queen's father had disliked school and her mother thought it was more important to have fun," Williams told Good Housekeeping (via Hello!). "Unlike her father, the Queen was and is very bright and had an appetite for learning as well as a razor-sharp memory."

A-Level is a subject-based qualification conferred as part of the General Certificate of Education. Meanwhile, General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is a set of exams taken in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and other British territories taken by students between ages 15 and 16 after two years of study.

In the United States of America, high school diploma is the qualification generally required for colleges and universities. In the U.K., high school diploma is considered to be at the level of GCSE.

Here’s how the fab four performed in school.

Prince William

Th Duke of Cambridge attended Ludgrove School in Berkshire before he attended Eton College in 1995 where he took his GCSEs and A-Levels. He received 12 GCSEs. Prince William opted to not begin his university course immediately to have time to travel and gain a variety of experience. He had 2:1 degree in Geography at St. Andrews University in Scotland.

Kate Middleton

Middleton is among the brightest minds in the royal family, based on her grades. The Duchess of Cambridge achieved 11 GCSEs at St. Andrew's School in Pangbourne in 1995. She then went on to Marlborough College in Wiltshire where she achieved As in Maths and Art and B in English.

Prince Harry

Prince Harry studied at Eton and gained 11 GCSEs and a B in Art and D in Geography in his A-Levels. While he is among the least academic achievers, he has plenty of successes in sports. Prince Harry was House Captain of Games and represented the school at rugby, cricket, and polo. He was also a member of the Combined Cadet Force.

Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle studied at Immaculate Heart High School in 1992. USA does not test students using GCSEs or A-Levels. However, Markle took SATs. Her grades were not revealed but it was enough to get her into a university.

Markle gained a double major in Theatre and International Relations at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 2003. She completed her internship at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she learned to speak Spanish. She also studied French for six years.

In related news, Prince William and Middleton are set to escort Prince George on his first day of school next month. The Duchess of Cambridge failed to accompany her eldest last year due to severe morning sickness.
