Princess Anne was previously accused of snubbing Cherie Blair, the wife of former prime minister Tony Blair.

In the biography “Tony & Cherie: A Special Relationship,” author Paul Scott detailed how Cherie’s relationship with Princess Anne went rapidly downhill and never really recovered after their first meeting in 1997.

On “Paxman’s on the Queen’s Children,” royal correspondent Gyles Brandreth recalled the first meeting at Balmoral Castle, which is where the feud between them started. “When Cherie Blair first met her and said, you know, ‘call me Cherie,’ she said ‘no, I think it would be better if I called you Ms. Blair,’” Brandreth said.

Author Paul Scott said that it was clear that Princess Anne didn’t really like Cherie, but the major royal snub happened a few years later. While at the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebration in 2002, the Blairs are said to have upset the royal family following an unscheduled walkabout.

When Cherie saw Princess Anne, she greeted her, but Scott said that Princess Anne turned her back without saying a word. Cherie responded to Princess Anne’s coldness by telling other people how she blanked her.

In related news, Princess Anne also made headlines this week after it was reported that Prince Charles was intimidated by her. On the Channel 5 documentary “Paxman on the Queen’s Children,” Paxman said that Prince Charles saw the similarities between Princess Anne and Philip.

Prince Charles and Prince Philip have had a difficult relationship especially when the heir to the throne was much younger. In the documentary “Prince Philip – A King Among Princes,” royal correspondent Robert Jobson said that the Duke of Edinburgh did not have serious role models growing up.

This is why when he became a father himself, he didn’t have any idea how he should interact with his children, particularly his eldest son. Penny Junor, a royal expert, said that Prince Philip simply didn’t get his son.

“He didn’t understand. He had a very difficult relationship with Charles,” Junor said.
