Many have wondered just what Princess Diana would have thought about the women her sons ended up marrying, especially since Prince Harry’s wedding to the often rule-defying Meghan Markle. However, one royal expert claims that at least one element of Markle’s life would have proven to be fascinating for the Princess of Wales.

According to Ingrid Seward, the ongoing battle that has been waged between the Duchess of Sussex and her estranged family members, especially her father, Thomas Markle, would have intrigued her late mother-in-law, and the Princess of Wales likely would have wanted to know exactly what led to the falling out.

“She would have been fascinated by the dynamics between Thomas Markle and his daughter thought,” she said, (via Express UK). “She would have wanted to know all the details of their relationship and why it went wrong.”

Whether she would have tried to find a way to help or not will never be known, though Seward also suggested that while the drama would have fascinated the Princess of Wales, at the same time, she may not have actually approved of Markle as a daughter-in-law—and even stated there may have been a chance Prince Harry wouldn’t have married her if his mother was alive.

“Siana was actually quite snobbish. She was very proud of her Spencer heritage, and although she was great with the ordinary man, she might not have wanted someone for her son who had been married before and was from such a different background,” she said. “Perhaps Harry wouldn’t have married Meghan if his mother had still been alive because his life would have been quite different.”

As for Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, it’s believed that despite the two women having some big differences in their backgrounds and overall introductions to the royal family, that they might have missed out on having a truly wonderful relationship with one another.

In an interview with Express, Diana and Prince Charles’ former Press Secretary Dickie Arbiter revealed that the two would have gotten along together very well.

“Diana would have been a great mother-in-law,” he said. “I think Kate and Diana would have got on very well. Kate would have found a great soulmate in Diana.”
