Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ failed marriage cannot solely be blamed on the latter’s affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.

In fact, royal expert Penny Junor said that the Prince and Princess of Wales’ relationship was never going to be a match made in heaven. In her book “The Firm,” the author also said that Prince Charles and Princess Diana were a mismatch.

“It was a mismatch of epic proportions and neither Charles nor Diana was emotionally strong enough to have given to each other what they needed,” Junor said.

She added that when Princess Diana got into a relationship with Prince Charles, she already had colossal problems that had nothing to do with the future King. The Princess of Wales’ outlook on relationships was affected by her unhappy childhood and feelings of being unloved and unwanted by her parents.

When Princess Diana was still very young, her parents divorced. Prince William’s mom was left under the care of her dad, and she felt that her mom left because of her. Princess Diana also struggled with the idea that her parents wanted to have a boy, but they had her instead.

Since Princess Diana was a very troubled woman, Prince Charles didn’t know how to handle her. The dad of two had certain traits that proved he wasn’t the one for the late royal.

“He had never looked after himself, let alone anyone else, and his position as the Prince of Wales with so many demands on his time made it impossible for him to give her the attention she craved. But I do strongly suspect that having a figure in the background like Camilla to fixate on made Diana worse,” Junor said.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana tied the knot on July 29, 1981. Eleven years later, the couple announced their trial separation. Unfortunately, their issues were never fixed and they eventually divorced on Aug. 31, 1996.
