KEY POINTS

  • Sony and Microsoft have unveiled the free games coming to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Games with Gold
  • Sony's announcement was met with disappointment
  • Microsoft offers more than just free games next month

Sony and Microsoft have finally announced the list of games that players will get via PlayStation Plus and Xbox Games with Gold. The titles being offered by the two rivalling platforms are very different from each other, but all of them will be available for free beginning next month.

PlayStation Plus

PS players who made their predictions as to what's going to be included in PS Plus for May will be surprised to know that their predictions –as well as a recent “leak”– are all wrong.

According to the PlayStation Blog, Sony will offer "Cities: Skylines - Playstation 4 Edition" and "Farming Simulator 19" for May. Both titles will become available for download for free starting May 5 and will be available until June 1. The former puts players in the shoes of an urban planner, while the latter puts players in the role of an urban or rural farmer.

These titles are far cries from the likes of “Assassin's Creed: Ezio Collection,” “Uncharted: Lost Legacy,” “Dying Light” and “Dark Souls Remastered,” which have all been predicted or rumored to come, and a quick look at online forums and comment sections reveals that fans aren't happy about it.

Explaining why the disappointment, Forbes emphasized that the “hardcore sims” come after “many months of pretty top-notch PS Plus lineups” which include “Uncharted 4: A Thief's End” and “DIRT Rally 2.0,” the free games for April. “Sony has really dropped the ball on this one,” Forbes noted. “What a shame.”

Xbox Games with Gold

Microsoft, on the other hand, is offering a total of four free titles for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 next month:

  • First, there's the racing game "V-Rally 4," available May 1 to 31 for the Xbox One.
  • Second is the action-RPG "Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr," available May 16 to June 15 on Xbox One.
  • Third is the "Sensible World of Soccer," available May 1 to 15 on Xbox One and Xbox 360.
  • Last is "Overlord II," which is available May 16 to 31 on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Microsoft is also offering Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass for Console members, as well as non-members, the chance to get the Xbox Game Pass ultimate for only $1.
