Whether or not dumping a bucket of ice water on your head is a valid form of fundraising may still be up for discussion but one thing is for sure: the #IceBucketChallenge has got our attention. The campaign has raised over $80 million for ALSA.org; last Wednesday alone, the ALS Foundation recieved $8.6 million in donations. But more than just proceeds, the challenge has successfully raised awareness for the neurodegenerative disease. On that same day, the ALS Wikipedia article had 436,035 page views.

Since the start of the challenge, nearly 2.3 million people have visited the Wikipedia article for ALS. That is 588,000 more pageviews than all of August 2013 to July 2014.

Jishai Evers, CEO of the recently launched Dadaviz, published this simple graphic on the Ice Bucket Challenge's effect on Wikipedia:

The Businessweek Graphics team is less excited about the growing trend. They point out that at it's current rate of growth, the total number of participants would cross the total population of the world by the 22nd day of the challenge.

The Challenge started on July 29, making August 20 the 22nd day. While buckets of ice water haven't quite surpassed the world population (good news for California), it did reach peak Wikipedia engagement at that time.
