  • The cancelation of the in-person QuakeCon was yet another event that had to be set aside in lieu of the global pandemic
  • Instead, video game investor ZeniMax Media is throwing its support behind QuakeCon at Home, a completely virtual digital event with livestreams, tournaments, and other activities
  •  QuakeCon at Home will also host the conclusion to the 2019-2020 Quake Pro League season with the Quake World Championship tournament scheduled to take place on August 9

After canceling the in-person QuakeCon due to the coronavirus pandemic, QuakeCon at Home steps in for an all-digital experience.

Scheduled to run from August 7-9 and backed by video game investor ZeniMax Media, QuakeCon will be completely virtual and features an assortment of livestreams, tournaments, and more you can experience from the comfort of your home during the surging coronavirus pandemic.

GameSpot reports that the event, appropriately dubbed “QuakeCon at Home,” the all-digital event kicks off with a Global Super Stream that starts on August 7 at 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. CEST / 2:00 a.m. AEST.

The broadcast will feature "round-the-clock programming with special influencer streams, surprises, and our very own Bethesda Community teams from around the globe--all streaming from home in support of charitable causes,” ZeniMax Media said.

In addition, the QuakeCon Twitch Team will also be featured. With the QuakeCon Twitch Team, community members can participate in games via Twitch to raise money for the QuakeCon-supported charities. Details on how to join the QuakeCon at Home Twitch Team will be revealed soon.

ZeniMax Media owns developer id Software (developers of the “Doom,” “Quake,” and “Rage” series) as well as publisher Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios (developers of “The Elder Scrolls” and “Fallout” series). It was founded in 1999 by Bethesda Softworks founder Christopher Weaver and Robert A. Altman.

QuakeCon at Home will also host the conclusion to the 2019-2020 Quake Pro League season with the Quake World Championship tournament scheduled to take place on August 9 at 2:00 p.m. PT / 5:00 p.m. ET / 11:00 p.m. CEST / 7:00 a.m. AEST.

From the safety of their own homes, the top 24 players in this tournament will compete for $150,000 and the title of Quake Champions' season winner. You can watch the tournament during the Global Super Stream.

This digital event also aims to raise money to support charities fighting racial inequality (like the NAACP Legal Defense Fund), advocating for healthcare for all (such as UNICEF), supporting animal rights (including long-time Dallas partners the Dallas Pets Alive and Four Paws), and more notes GameSpot.

There are also "Dogvahkiin" and "Catodemon" t-shirts available to purchase, as well as QuakeCon at Home gear that can be ordered from Bethesda's European and North American stores.

It’s been almost four months since ZeniMax Media made the tough decision to cancel the in-person QuakeCon event due to the perils of the coronavirus. Despite that cancelation, QuakeCon will continue in 2020 and more details are forthcoming before QuakeCon at Home occurs in August.
