Queen Elizabeth is rumored to have already given up on Prince Charles so that she could focus more on Prince William and Kate Middleton. But is this really the case?

On the online forum site Quora, royal fan Chris Smith from the Macquarie University said that it is unlikely that Her Majesty has already given up on the heir to the throne. In fact, just last year, the monarch gave her son support at the Commonwealth Heads of Government.

“That is hardly a sign that she is ‘giving up’ on her son but the exact opposite - that she has the utmost confidence in him. The leaders of the Commonwealth countries also agree as they voted unanimously to appoint him to that position. It isn’t hereditary so it isn’t a given that, when the time comes, William will get that position,” he said.

But Smith also acknowledged the fact that the Queen may be putting more efforts on Prince William and Kate because she is aware that she wouldn’t be around very long. In fact, it is unlikely that Her Majesty would still be around when Prince William becomes King. The 93-year-old royal simply wants to ensure that the Cambridges wouldn’t succumb to the pressures of their future roles.

Andrew Arrowsmith echoed Smith’s statement. He said that the Queen doesn’t need to spend so much time on Prince Charles because she has trained him all his life. Melissa Marshall acknowledged the fact that Prince Charles and the Queen were never close especially when the former was younger.

“But in the third act of Charles and Elizabeth’s lives, it seems more relaxed and manageable. Charles has been waiting in the wings so to speak since he was four years old. Charles has disappointed his mother from time to time, but she has not neglected him in terms of his future job as King. Rather, she has spent decades helping to prepare him for the job. She hasn’t given up on her son. Not one bit,” she said.
