Lethal Weapon is all set to relaunch with a new cast, reports Deadline.com.

Warner Bros producer Joel Silver has hired Will Beall, the author of LA Rex, to write the script while Ruben Fleischer has been appointed to be the director.

Warner Brothers has been waiting to make Lethal Weapon 5 for a long time. Plans were afoot to take the original team of Shane Black, the scriptwriter and Mel Gibson. But the movie could not take off for obvious reasons. Mel Gibson’s personal problems and image downturn has hampered the series. It was reported earlier in the year that Mel Gibson was in talks with Joel Silver to star in Lethal Weapon as a vehicle to kick start his career.

Beall, who has written for Castle and Gangster Squad, has been asked to script the series. Beall brings about his professional experience as a LA police officer to the table when he scripts these series.

This remake will at least be a hard R-rated edgy street cop movie, according to Deadline .com, but it will still be a police procedural with a mismatched pair of detectives again.

It will be interesting to see who will take over from Mel Gibson and Dannny Glover. The casting directors will have to match the previous pair’s chemistry and get actors who can replace the entrenched images of the two cops.
