Ten years after the “Red Dead Redemption” expansion pack “Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare” was released, a fan wonders what a possible “Undead Nightmare 2” could have looked like.

Developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games, “Red Dead Redemption” was released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to critical acclaim. Its story of former outlaw John Marston trying to bring three former members of his gang to justice spawned the standalone game “Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare” set in an alternate timeline as well as “Red Dead Redemption 2.”

However, with “Red Dead Redemption 2” being a prequel and focusing on the character of Arthur Morgan instead, the zombie plague storyline introduced in “Undead Nightmare” was left hanging.

One of those fans made a post-apocalyptic version of the city of Saint Denis reports Screen Rant. A zombie plague has infected John Marston’s wife and son in “Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare,” forcing the protagonist to search for a cure. Rockstar Games, though, doesn’t seem to have any plans to proceed with this story any time soon.

A video of the fanmade, post-apocalyptic Saint Denis was created by and shared on the “Red Dead Redemption” subreddit by user MSlingerW. According to the creator, the modded Saint Denis was built using the “RDR2 Map Editor mod by Lambdarevolution, which is required to run the modded map. The “Post-Apocalyptic Saint Denis map mod itself is hosted on Nexusmods.

Admittedly still a work in progress, some of its the post-apocalyptic Saint Denis mod’s already available features include a field hospital inside the tram station, shops featuring boarded up windows, a jungle area in and around the city’s park, a post-apocalyptic camp, and other features that help make the area look more immersive including broken carts, coaches, dead bodies, and more. MSlingerW has said that they will continue to work on the map until it covers the entirety of Saint Denis.

In “Red Dead Redemption 2,” former outlaw Arthur Morgan of the Van der Linde gang must deal with the decline of the Wild West while attempting to survive against government forces, rival gangs, and other adversaries. “Red Dead Redemption 2” was released in 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.

Developer Rockstar Games has yet to release any single-player DLC for the game since it launched in 2018. Most of the updates Rockstar Games has done so far has been for “Red Dead Online,” the online multiplayer component of “Red Dead Redemption 2,” which players had previously hoped would host its own zombie-themed event, Screen Rant says.

Sadly, a fanmade expansion may be the only way for players to experience anything similar to what John Marston did in “Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare.”
