Queen Mary (Adelaide Kane) can marry either for love or for country. Last week’s episode of “Reign” Season 4 revealed a prophecy of the Scottish monarch that will ensure that she is bound to be in a loveless marriage with Lord Darnley (Will Kemp). The Queen of Scots decided to try to end the wedding with the help of her former mother-in-law, Catherine (Megan Follows).

Meanwhile, in France, King Charles (Spencer MacPherson) was persuaded by Claude’s (Rose Williams) husband Luc (Steve Lund) to convert from Protestantism to Catholicism. Unfortunately, his erratic behavior is back.

In England, Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) decided to give an explorer named Captain Hawkins (Max Lloyd-Jones) a royal charter to explore the New World.

Well, despite Mary’s attempt to end her wedding with Darnley, they will nevertheless get married. The synopsis on TVGuide states that they will wed lavishly. Although both the bride and the groom are unhappy, their decision aids Scotland and enhances the monarch’s political standing in Europe. But the wedding isn’t the only problem on her mind.

The promo of the upcoming episode shows a priest informing Darnley that the Vatican is willing to give him control of Scotland. Darnley has a chance to be a ruler by pushing his wife aside! Of course, Catherine is quick to smell his scheme and warns Mary to protect her crown.

Catherine isn’t the only one skeptical of Mary’s future husband. James (Dan Jeannotte) is also worried about him in “Reign” Season 4, episode 9. Joining Catherine and James in their dissent for Darnley is Mary’s new lover, Lord Bothwell (Adam Croasdell). He urges her not to marry him and reminds her that there are other ways of joining England and Scotland.

Meanwhile, James will make an interesting discovery about Greer (Celina Sinden). Are these two going to have an affair soon?

In England, Elizabeth will try to salvage her country’s power.

“Reign” Season 4 airs Fridays at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
