The new episodes of "Rick and Morty" Season 4 may take a year or more before they can be released.

Adult Swim has renewed the popular animated series back in May. However, the network has not announced an official release date for the series yet. According to Ryan Ridley, one of the voice actors and producers, fans should not expect for new "Rick and Morty" Season 4 episodes until 2019.

"I know how long this show takes to write, let alone animate," Ridley said in an interview. "I'd be surprised if there was a fourth season on the air anytime sooner than 2019… late 2019."

In August, the production released a new animated makeover teaser for the series. In the 15-second clip, the characters were redesigned as 90s superheroes. Rick has transformed into a man with a visor similar to Cyclops from "X-Men." On the other hand. Morty looked like the protagonist "One Punch Man." Summer and Beth have their own transformations, too.

It took long for the network to renew "Rick and Morty" for the fourth season. It came to a point where fans wondered if the creators wanted to pitch it to other networks or streaming services like Netflix or Amazon. However, series creator Dan Harmon was confident that they will be renewed.

"Someone would have to buy it I guess? Maybe they figure that's a better way to make money, what do I know, I'm not a money guy, I'm a story guy," Darmon responded to a fan who asked if it's possible to bring "Rick and Morty" Season 4. "But my instincts tell me we're due for a 'return threshold.'"

Adult Swim ordered Harmon and Justin Roiland for 70 episodes which are more than doubled the number of episodes combined in the first three seasons. Harmon revealed earlier that he wanted more episodes in season 4, but he was only hoping for 14.

"I would like to think I've learned enough from my mistakes in season 3 that we could definitely do 14 now," Harmon said. "But then I have to say, 'Yeah but you're the guy who says we can do 14 who turned out to be wrong so we're not listening to you now.' The nice healthy way to approach this is I want to prove it with the first 10 of season 4 — prove it to ourselves, to production, to the network — that it's so easy that we'll earn additional episodes."
