Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “raised eyebrows” when they walked solo down the aisle of St. Paul’s Cathedral during the thanksgiving service for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee on Sunday.

Royal commentator Camilla Tominey wrote in The Telegraph that the Palace did not appreciate it when the couple opted to not join other members of the royal family as they entered the cathedral, 7news reported.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose to walk from the cathedral’s entrance to their seats by themselves when they could have joined Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and their husbands, whose seats were just next to them during the service, Tominey said.

The couple reportedly caused an “awkward shuffle” when they did that, as all eyes were on them at the time.

“One of the reasons the couple were spotted leaving Clarence House that Friday morning was because they were in a security pod with the Duke of York’s daughters, having apparently expressed concerns about their level of protection throughout the whistlestop visit,” Tominey wrote.

Even though Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice had arrived with their husbands ahead of Harry and Meghan, the couple chose to enter on their own instead of accompanying their cousins as they made their way to the seats, the royal commentator said.

Tominey also noted that Prince Harry and Meghan were seated on the opposite side of the church to Prince William and Kate Middleton during the ceremony and did not speak to them before or after the service.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex only spoke to Zara Tindall, daughter of Princess Anne, and her husband Mike Tindall, but reportedly exchanged no pleasantries with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The thanksgiving service on June 3, which was not attended by Queen Elizabeth, marked the only major public appearance of Prince Harry and Meghan during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations last month. On June 2, they did not join the rest of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during the Trooping the Colour event.
