  • "Horizon Zero Dawn 2" is said to be in the works for three years now

Sony and Guerrilla Games are rumored to be working on a sequel of “Horizon Zero Dawn” for PlayStation 5, per Video Game Chronicles.

According to the report, Guerrilla has long been planning to create a trilogy of Horizon games, though it has only been approved and agreed upon after the successful PlayStation 4 release of the first game. Now, the Amsterdam-based game developer is said to be working on “Horizon Zero Dawn 2.”

Per VGC, Guerrilla started the development of the sequel after the release of “Horizon Zero Dawn” in 2017. It was also initially being made for PS4, but they have since shifted their focus to Sony’s next generation console which is scheduled to be released this Holiday 2020.

VGC’s sources also indicated that the sequel is set in a larger world with a “gigantic” scope, which will give players more freedom to explore compared to the first iteration of the game. A co-op feature is also said to be included, though details remain unclear – specifically whether it will be in the main story or a separate mode.

Sony and Guerrilla Games are yet to confirm or deny the rumors. However, there have been several leaks lately pointing to a new Horizon installment, particularly a series of job ads from Guerrilla for an open-world game with quests and creatures.

“Horizon Zero Dawn” was a massive hit in its release, with several experts and fans praising its story depth, visuals and challenging battle system. It has been labeled as one of the best games of 2017, being nominated and winning several awards in the process.

In 2018, it won the Best Original Property in the BAFTA Games Awards.

On the other hand, if the rumors are true, fans shouldn’t expect that it will be coming soon.

According to recent reports, Sony is planning to release PlayStation 5 in limited quantities due the lack of promotion caused by the coronavirus crisis. With that said, it’s unlikely that “Horizon Zero Dawn 2” will be released at the same time as the PS5.

Moreover, the development of the game could have also been affected by the pandemic. Sony recently warned that games for their next-gen console could be in short supply since operations of development studios have been impacted as well.
