Samsung is not expected to introduce the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ until February of this year, but new details about the upcoming flagship phones are incessantly spreading like wildfire online. The latest of which suggests that the bigger variant among the two is going to be a powerhouse.

On Tuesday, benchmark website Geekbench published the scores of an upcoming Samsung smartphone, which is believed to be the Galaxy S9+. From the looks of things, the phablet is going to be the most powerful handset yet from the South Korea giant. Its scores are so impressive that it easily beats the Galaxy Note 8 and any other Samsung phone for that matter.

The device that was spotted on Geekbench runs Android 8.0 Oreo and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset which has eight cores. Because the Snapdragon 845 is the most advanced chipset from Qualcomm, the handset with the model number SM-G965U1 is expected to benefit from it a lot.

For the single-core test, the Samsung device got 2422. This is obviously quite impressive considering that no other Samsung smartphone has ever scored higher than 2000 on this performance test. For the multi-score test, the handset got 8351, which is also just as impressive considering that the best multi-core score a Samsung device has gotten was around the 6500 mark, as pointed out by Phone Arena.

To compare, the Galaxy S8+ got 1790 from the single-core test and 6033 from the multi-score test. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 8 obtained single-core score of 1807 and a multi-core score of 6297. However, the lower scores are justifiable because both phones came with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC.

For now there’s no telling if the Geekbench scores really belong to the Galaxy S9+. If true though, this would make the Galaxy S9+ the new standard of performance of Samsung’s Galaxy flagship handsets. Furthermore, it would help generate strong demand for the phone that’s expected to be an minor upgrade over its predecessor.

Samsung has yet to confirm anything about the highly anticipated Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. However, there have been reports claiming that the tech giant would most likely unveil the two handsets at MWC 2018 in February. Previously it was rumored that Samsung could be announcing the new flagships at CES 2018 in January. However, a Samsung representative has already said that this is “unlikely.”

Meanwhile, Samsung just announced its newest mid-range offering called the Galaxy A8. The device is the first ever Samsung phone to feature a dual front camera setup comprising a 16-megapixel lens and another 8-megapixel lens. Both work together to allow users to take beautiful photos with the bokeh effect. Unfortunately, Samsung has clarified that the new camera technology won’t be coming to its flagship smartphones.
