KEY POINTS

  • Samsung has lowered the selling price for the Galaxy Z Flip
  • The device’s listing on Samsung’s online store says it now sells for $1,199 instead of the original $1,449
  • Buyers can get it for as low as $5.56 a month via eligible trade-ins

Samsung’s foldable devices have attracted people with their novel designs but also drove many away with their eye-watering prices. For the cost of buying one first-gen Galaxy Fold, for example, consumers can get two Galaxy S20 FE units and a cheap smartphone from Motorola. Thankfully, the South Korean noticed that and lowered the price for one of its foldables.

Samsung recently reduced the price of the Galaxy Z Flip – its second foldable device which folds like a clamshell, similar to the Motorola Razr foldable. The device’s listing in Samsung’s online store (spotted by GSM Arena) indicates that it now sells for $1,199. This shows a $250 price slash from the original $1,449 price when the device was first released last year.

The price slash doesn’t end there. Samsung will also accept trade-ins to lower the device’s price even more. While the list of eligible devices is a bit small, it will help lower the cost substantially.

Those who own Google Pixel smartphones can get as much as a $250 discount, while Apple iPhone owners can get as much as $650 off. Samsung device owners are offered the best deal and can get as much as $1,000 off the $1,199 selling price.

Interestingly, those who want the $1,000 discount will need to trade in a Galaxy Fold, a Galaxy Z Flip or a Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne edition. GSM Arena is curious as to why someone would want to trade in a Galaxy Z Flip for another Galaxy Z Flip.

The answer is obvious: users can get a newer unit by giving up a device they’ve been using for some time and adding a small amount of money.

What’s more, Samsung will let buyers pay via monthly installments, meaning customers won’t even feel the pinch when getting a new unit via trade-in. Buyers, for example, will only need to pay as low as $5.56 per month for 36 months if they trade in an eligible Galaxy Z Flip or Galaxy Fold. Samsung Care+ will cost more than a device purchased this way.

Those who are interested in getting a new unit can only get one in Mystic Gray or Mystic Bronze as Mystic White is out of stock at the moment.
