  • The Marvel Cinematic Universe actor has since removed the NSFW likes from his Twitter profile
  • He previously admitted to watching explicit Japanese anime series and films

Samuel L. Jackson became a hot topic online on his birthday for a surprising reason.

When Jackson celebrated his 74th birthday Wednesday, some eagle-eyed fans noticed that his Twitter account "liked" several hardcore adult content videos from user @blackpanda_00.

Among the clips he liked included a man masturbating and a man and woman having intercourse, according to Page Six.

The NSFW "likes" were later removed from the actor's page, but not before some of his followers managed to save screenshots and Jackson became a trending topic on Twitter.

Fans tweeted Jackson reminders to switch his "liked tweets" to private after seeing the feed filled with X-rated videos. Others defended him, saying that Jackson was simply doing what "normal adults do."

One person tweeted, "This is why Samuel L. Jackson is trending y'all... Man's enjoying some Twitter p0rn me time and liking it... Twitter likes shouldn't be public."

"First, people laughed at Bob Odenkirk for following a foot fetish account which made him unfollow it. Now, Samuel L. Jackson likes some porn, [and the] same thing happens and he unliked it all. Enough with the shaming," another wrote.

"Samuel L. Jackson more like Samuel W. Jackson, he's a baller and I respect it. He's earned the right to like the tweets he did," another user tweeted.

Jackson and his spokesperson have yet to address the online blunder.

The "Die Hard with a Vengeance" star has been open about his love for adult content. In 2017, he appeared in an episode of Wired's "Autocomplete Interview" on YouTube and answered the most-searched questions about himself online. One of the search queries read, "Does Samuel Jackson like anime?"

"Yes, I do. Hentai, too," the actor said with a laugh, referring to the Japanese manga and anime genre featuring sexually explicit plots and sexualized characters.

Slip-up aside, Jackson marked his special day with his "The Piano Lesson" cast members. The actor stars as patriarch Doaker Charles in the Broadway production, which is now considered the highest-grossing revival play of the season.

Rev. Al Sharpton surprised him with a cake during the show's curtain call.

The play marked the Academy Award nominee's first Broadway stage project in more than a decade. It also allowed him and his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson — who directs the show — to work together.

"I had the opportunity to create Boy Willie at Yale and became very attached to it, probably a little too much," Jackson said at a September press conference ahead of the Broadway revival's first performance. "So by the time the play traveled and came back to Broadway, and I was an understudy, I was pretty much devastated that I wasn't going to make my Broadway debut, drowning myself in a drug-fueled kind of craziness and ended up in rehab, which, you know, started a whole other journey for me."

"So it's kind of interesting to come back in this way and to be Doaker and to listen to John David create Boy Willie," he added. "I'm looking forward to audiences being there."
