Seth Meyers ripped into Donald Trump for inciting the violence that took place in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, saying that the president wanted this and directed the rioters to cause mayhem on the streets of America.

Addressing viewers in the latest episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the host said that he and his team were writing jokes for the episode but horrifying scenes from the U.S. Capitol forced them to drop everything and talk about the riots.

“I swear, we were writing jokes today and then… as everyone knows by now that today was filled with surreal and horrifying scenes of armed insurrection and an attempt to destroy, through violent means, American democracy,” Meyers said.

The sequence of events and images had never been seen in the modern history of the nation, according to the host, and due to that, producers decided to scrap all the jokes for the episode. Meyers also explained that the rioters, incited by Trump, wanted to overthrow the “legitimated elected government” of the country by entering the Senate building forcefully.

He added that Trump’s “we love you” message was disgraceful and that Wednesday's Capitol breach was predictable.

“We can be shocked, but we can’t be surprised. The president wanted this. He directed it, supported it, and encouraged it. For two months, people were fed monstrous and inflammatory lies about the election and here we are,” Meyers added.

The talk-show host went on to say that senators like Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley should wear “this shame and disgrace” for the rest of their lives.

“No one who aided today’s actions should ever be allowed to serve in a democracy they so clearly detest,” he said.

Meyers then called on lawmakers to remove Trump from office immediately, saying it is only then the country will come out of this harrowing situation.

He concluded the monologue by requesting his viewers to tune in the next day for another episode and promised that the show would be loaded with jokes that’ll bring a smile to their faces during such tumultuous times.

Sixty-eight rioters have been arrested by police since Wednesday and four have died amid the violence, USA Today reported.

The president's actions prompted Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to temporarily ban Trump from posting on their respective social media platforms. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that Trump’s account has been “suspended” indefinitely, while Twitter has blocked his account for 12 hours.
