Michigan State Police were investigating the case of “suspicious” deaths after two adults were found dead in a motel room in Whitehall on Friday. The couple’s severely dehydrated six-month-old daughter was found alive in the room.

Police said autopsies were performed on 26-year-old Jessica Bramer and 28-year-old Christian Reed on Saturday. The autopsies could not determine the cause of death and the toxicology results could take at least 30 days. Police said drug paraphernalia was also found in the motel room and the baby, named Skylah, could have been alone in the room for three days.

"This precious baby needed a lot heroes and a lot of heroes showed up. The call we had yesterday (Friday) was just a vivid reminder why any of us are in this business, and it's not a business to us, it's a matter of saving lives,” White Lake Ambulance Authority EMT Michele Bridges, said.

"It was one of those high pressure calls where we just kind of kicked it into gear and used all the skills that we’ve acquired over the years. We keep our emotions in check and our skills kick in and take over and we do what is necessary, what needs to be done, and we just get our jobs done," Bridges added.

"Our role at that time was to get a patient to the hospital safely and as quickly as possible and the hospital will usually have a team ready and waiting for us, they intercepted the patient from us, and at that point it’s up to the hospital to contact the air ambulance to get the patient where they need to go," he further explained, adding that the baby was then flown to Devos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids. The baby was in critical condition but was expected to make a full recovery.

Hoping that the baby would recover soon, Bridges said, "The images in our mind never go away. Even though those images never go away when we have a positive outcome those images start pushing those images back a little farther.”

Speaking to 24 Hour News 8, family members said the couple and their baby were staying at the motel for about a week and that the pair had been in and out of jail. The family members also claimed the baby’s grandparents had contacted Children's Protective Services earlier this year, worried about her safety. The investigation into the case was ongoing and the details about who would take custody of the baby once she was dicharged from the hospital were not known.
