‘Shameless’ Season 9 Premiere Spoilers: Episode 1 Synopsis And Photos

The Gallaghers are back for “Shameless” Season 9, and that means trouble is coming. The whole family will find themselves in some sticky situations. Showtime’s episode 1 synopsis reveals Frank and his kids will have different struggles

“In the Season 9 premiere, Frank’s (William H. Macy) latest sexual escapades get him into trouble with the Hopkins Academy PTA,” the logline reveals. Viewers saw last season that Frank started hooking up with the mothers at Liam’s (Christian Isaiah) school after they were attracted to his blue-collar qualities. Unfortunately, Frank is an idiot, so he accidentally spread an STD. Don’t expect the affairs to stay secret for long.

Meanwhile, Frank’s kids are in much deeper trouble. Ian’s (Cameron Monaghan) still in jail after being arrested for his “Gay Jesus” protests, one of which included blowing up a van. Fiona (Emmy Rossum) apparently isn’t rushing to get him out of the big house.

“Fiona struggles with her decision to bail Ian out of jail, while he continues his Gay Jesus antics inside,” the premiere synopsis teases.

Lip (Jeremy Allen White) is still playing Dad to Eddie’s niece, but dating and taking care of a kid is tough. “Lip juggles taking care of Xan (Scarlet Spencer) with a potential romance,” the summary notes.

Elsewhere, “Debbie (Emma Kenney) fights for equal pay at work.” The “Shameless” Season 9 trailer (seen at the top of this page) makes it clear that she discovers her male co-workers are paid more. When asked why, she is told women take to many bathroom breaks. Debbie decides it’s time to diaper up.

Though it previously took place off-screen, “Shameless” Season 9 will follow Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) to military school. Viewers will recall that he married Kassidi (Sammi Hanratty) before he left, and the lovesick teenager wasn’t happy about him going back to school. She’ll follow him all the way there, attracting the wrong kind of attention from Carl’s superiors. “Carl has to prove himself at military school,” the synopsis says.

Finally, there’s Kev (Steve Howie) and V (Shanola Hampton), who are no longer in a complicated throuple. After Svetlana (Isidora Goreshter) posed as another Russian woman and married a rich, old man, Kev and V are on their own, and they might miss Svetlana’s help. “Kev and V have trouble with the twins without Svetlana,” the synopsis teases.

Remember, “Shameless” won’t be airing for very long this fall. Season 9 will be split into halves with the first seven episodes airing through October. The dramedy will return in January with the back half of the season, which will be Rossum’s final episodes. She announced her departure last week.
