In an unusual discovery, U.S. YouTuber and treasure-hunter Michael Bennet recovered an iPhone laying at the bottom of a river last week. The interesting thing is that the phone which was missing for almost 15 months, still works.

Bennet whose channel named ‘Nugget Noggin’ is all about finding treasures, posted a video in which he can be seen diving deep into the Edisto River, South California, and eventually discovering the iPhone in a mud-soiled waterproof case.

In an interview with a local channel WDAM7, the adventure enthusiast said, “I came across something like a rope maybe attached to car keys, but when I pulled it up, I saw a phone inside of a waterproof case and I was like, ‘no way, this is unbelievable!”

As the phone was password-protected, Bennet removed the iPhone’s sim card and inserted it into a different phone to get contact information about the rightful owner.

The iPhone belonged to Erica Bennett, who had lost it on a family trip on June 19, 2018. It fell into the river while she was getting out of her boat. Erica was overwhelmed on retrieving not just pictures but text conversations with her late father which she thought were lost forever.

“It was emotional because the last thing I have from him is saying, ‘Hey I’m playing phone tag with you, so I figured I just text you, how are you feeling?’ I am pretty sure it was father’s day,” she told WDAM7.

The video posted just a few days ago has gone viral with almost 2 lakh views and several thousand likes.

Michael Bennet started treasure-hunting at the age of 12, since which he has been hooked and loves going out to search for the unknown.

“You may seee me in the woods crawling under an old house or diving down in the river to search for rings. Whatever the adventure brings, I’ll keep you entertained,” reads his YouTube bio.
