Fox series “Sleepy Hollow” is back. The Season 4 premiere introduced several new characters including Ichabod Crane’s (Tom Mison) new partner Diana Thomas (Janina Gavankar), engineer Alex Norwood (Rachel Melvin) and cataloguer of supernatural phenomena Jake Wells (Jerry MacKinnon).

Episode 1 ended with viewers learning that Diana’s 10-year-old daughter Molly (Oona Yaffe) fainting two weeks before her mother met Ichabod. She also draws Crane’s face in a sketchbook. Is she the new witness?

Episode 2 kicks off with a case involving witchcraft. According to the synopsis of this week’s episode, titled “In Plain Sight,” Crane and Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) will make a big discovery and will struggle to break some difficult news to the Homeland Security Agent.

Given that Crane and Diana are dealing with witchcraft, will he tell her about his past? The former Captain was married to a witch named Katrina (Katia Winter) who died in Season 2.

The preview of “Sleepy Hollow” Season 4, episode 2 provides a glimpse of what to expect in the episode, including the return of the Headless Horseman. Crane soon learns that a villain is unleashing evil supernatural creatures in Washington, D.C. It seems like it will only be a matter of time before they learn that tech billionaire Malcom Dreyfuss (Jeremy Davies) is responsible for releasing demons.

The preview also shows Jenny and Ichabod debating about Diana. “She’s not Abbie,” the professor quips. Jenny reassures Crane, “She can handle this.”

The case will also involve the team stepping into an invisible witch house. Surprisingly, Diana gets taken by the witch while they are solving the case.

In other news, “Sleepy Hollow” Season 4 opened to lower than average ratings. The premiere only managed to secure 2.2 million viewers and a 0.6 rating, TVLine reports. In comparison, the Season 3 premiere had a 3.5 million audience and a 1.0 demo rating while its Season 3 finale had an audience of 3 million and a 0.7 rating. The premiere is even below the show’s average rating (3.1 million and a 0.8).
