Xbox Boss Phil Spencer recently confirmed that Microsoft’s next-generation gaming console, the Xbox Series X, would house a 12 teraflops GPU. So far, Sony has not revealed any details related to the teraflop count of the PS5. But, a new leak claims that Sony might release a more powerful and more expensive next-generation gaming console this year that could match or even exceed the teraflop count of the Xbox Series X.

New PS5 Pro Leak

The latest leak about the PS5 comes from a NeoGaf account named XFVVeteran, who reveals that Sony is preparing to release the more powerful PS5 Pro along with the PS5 in the holiday of 2020. The tipster also shares that both Sony and Microsoft will introduce a couple of next-generation gaming console models this year. The 12 teraflops Xbox Series X is the more powerful model while the base model will feature a much lower teraflops count, the tipster adds.

Apart from this, the leaker reveals that Sony’s base PS5 model will feature 9 teraflops GPU, and the more powerful PS5 Pro will house a much higher teraflops count. The PS5 Pro would also be more expensive, and the leaker believes that it might retail at around $600. Last year, Japanese games journalist Zenji Nishikawa also revealed that Sony would introduce a more expensive PS5 Pro along with the standard PS5 model.

More Powerful Gaming Consoles

Since September of last year, there were whispers online that both Microsoft and Sony are going to release two gaming consoles in 2020. But, until now, neither Sony nor Microsoft acknowledges the rumors. Last year, in an interview with Game Informer, Sony Interactive Entertainment Executive Vice President of Hardware Engineering Masayusu Ito confirmed that the company is going to introduce the PS5 Pro. However, the executive said that Sony is considering between six and seven years of life cycle for its next-generation gaming console.

The leak and the statement of a Sony executive agree on one point-- that Sony is releasing the PS5 Pro. However, the former claims that it is arriving this year, while the latter says it would arrive in the future. At this point, nothing is official yet; we suggest taking these details with a grain of salt.
