Everybody is going bonkers for the up and coming Sony PlayStation 5. With the new generation console expected to launch early next year, avid fans of the gaming system are hoping to see it firsthand before its launch.

Recently, a mysterious "electronic device" spotted by Lets Go Digital has gotten the attention of PlayStation enthusiasts. The patent that was filed by Sony doesn't look like the past iterations of the console. Instead, it resembles something that's taken out of sci-fi movies.

The sketched gadget looks like a future generation console with a strange V-shaped design that's farm from the PS4's slanted profile. The patent attributed to well-known console designer and engineer Yasuhiro Ootori could possibly be the PS5.

The image also reveals that the "electronic device" will at least have five USB ports and a prominent disc tray. The upper section appears to have large holes on all sides, possibly for system cooling.

The overbearing and aggressive design could suggest a significant upgrade from the previous console's temperature control design. It could mean that the new rig could have a powerful GPU that needs adequate cooling.

If the rumors are true, the PS5 could be twice as powerful as the current PS4, so getting the temperature down on long gaming binges is vital.

Although this could just be one of Sony's thousands of patents, the leaked "electronic device" could give us clues on what the next-gen console would look like.

In the past, the Japanese consumer electronics company has filed hundreds of patents for the PS4 but won't always turn into the final design. The leaked image likely was one of the early prototype's of the PS5, but we can't be sure ourselves.

If we follow Sony's launch schedule, it could mean that next year would be the PlayStation 5's likely launch. The PS1 was released in 1995, the PS2 followed in 2000, the PS3 in 2006 and the PS4 in 2013.

We just can't wait for it comes out, the PS4 has recently dropped their prices, could this mean that Sony's preparing for the PS5? We will have to find out next year, the hype is real.
