Sony has made it a point to starve gamers and gaming enthusiasts of information related to the PlayStation 5 for so long. But, following the announcement of Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan that its next-generation gaming console is arriving in the holidays of 2020, more details started surfacing online. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Yasuhiro Osaki recently shared in an interview another next-generation feature of PS5 that gamers will definitely love.

Over time, PS4 gamers have been worried that their current PlayStation 4 catalog of games will become obsolete. However, it appears that the PlayStation 5 will ensure continuity with the PS4 in at least one particular area that is now officially confirmed by Sony. Famitsu, a Japanese videogame magazine, recently interviewed Yasuhiro Osaki of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sony’s software engineer revealed that PS Now, the streaming service currently available for PS gamers will also be available on PlayStation 5 when it finally releases.

This means the PlayStation 5 will have the ability to download and stream titles straight to the next generation gaming console. This is good news for current PS Now subscribers since they will still be able to continue playing with their current video titles on Sony’s new gaming console. Additionally, Osaki-san disclosed that for now, Sony has no plans of bringing the subsection service to mobile platforms.

For the uninitiated, PlayStation Now is a subscription service that enables subscribers to access more than 700 video game titles via download and streaming. The service is currently offering time-limited and permanent titles. Sony’s Osaki-san also informed the Japanese videogames magazine that more popular games will soon arrive in PS Now on a monthly basis, but the time-limited additions will also increase.

Google is pushing the games-as-streaming-service concept idea on Google Stadia. This could mean that Sony will be more aggressive with PS Now and more likely make it a prominent component of the PlayStation 5 strategy in the long run. There is also a possibility that Sony might explore cloud gaming technology further and might bypass console in the future, a report claims.

As for the backwards compatibility feature of the PlayStation 5, Sony has been vague about it but earlier stated that it will reveal more details in the future about this feature.
