  • Sony is reportedly reconsidering the price of the PS5
  • The report surfaced following Microsoft's earlier announcement of the price points of Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X
  • Sony maintains holiday 2020 release window for its next-gen gaming console

Now that Sony already knows the prices of Microsoft's next-gen gaming consoles, a new report claims that the Japanese gaming giant is rethinking about the PS5's price. Earlier this week, Microsoft finally announced the official release date and prices of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Now that Microsoft was the first one to end the chicken game, it appears that Sony is making an adjustment, which, if true, is bliss to PS5 fans.

At least one publication believes Sony could be rethinking its pricing plan and release date for the PS5. European gaming site Gameractor cites an anonymous source claiming that Sony's next-gen console is "considerably" more expensive and that the company might cut its price to match that of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

It is highly likely that Sony might retail the PS5 at $499 while the PS5 Digital Edition could sell at $100 less. Despite Microsoft's recent action, the Japanese gaming giant has not yet announced the specific release date and price of the PS5. In fact, Sony was mum on its rival's latest move.

Following Microsoft's announcement, the industry knows that the Xbox Series X will arrive on November 10, 2020. The console's pre-order would go live starting September 22. Microsoft's next-gen gaming systems will be available through the Xbox All Access program and other partners.

Meanwhile, multiple listings reportedly hint on the potential release date of the PS5. Gizmodo Japan recently reported about Amazon Japan's listing of the PS5 controller's charging stand. The accessory is scheduled to be available starting November 20. In addition to this, a couple of other PS5 accessories are listed with a similar release date.

Amazon UK also lists that the PS5's wall mount accessory created by Floating Grip arrives on November 19, 2020. At this point, all these dates are unofficial, so these must be taken with a pinch of salt. Sony still maintains the Holiday 2020 release date of its next-generation gaming console.
