Earlier this year, Sony launched the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra. Now, a new leak has revealed that the company is working on a follow up to the Xperia XA2, called the XA3, which is expected to be announced early next year.

Renders for the Sony Xperia XA3 were leaked by MySmartPrice and Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks). The upcoming handset is shown to have significantly thinner bezels than its predecessor and it appears to have a 5.9-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It’s being speculated that the display will have a resolution of 1,080 x 2,160. The dimensions of the device are said to be 155.7 x 68.3 x 8.4mm.

The renders are reportedly based on factory CAD, which means that these could be showing the most accurate first look at the upcoming the device. Up front, it can be clearly seen that the phone will have a camera on the right side of the top bezel, while the Sony branding is present at the bottom bezel. On the back, the handset comes with a set of dual cameras that are housed inside a pill-shaped module that’s located on the top portion.

The camera module slightly protrudes from the handset’s body giving it a small bump on the back. The LED flash sits on top of the dual cameras, while the Sony logo and the Xperia branding are also present on the back. There’s no information yet on what type of sensors are on the cameras, but the Xperia XA2 did arrive with a single-lens 23-megapixel camera.

The renders also show that the Xperia XA3 will have the same button placements for the volume, power and camera shutter on the right side edge. One big change in design here is that the Xperia XA3 will be housing a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Both the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra arrived with rear-mounted fingerprint sensors.

The Xperia XA3 also comes with a USB type-C port on the bottom, while the 3.5mm headphone jack is located at the top. As for internals, the handset is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, which is a significant upgrade from the Snapdragon 630 on the XA2. The Xperia XA3 is also said to have up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. On the software side of things, it’s likely that the device will run Android 9.0 Pie straight out of the box, according to Phone Arena.

The Sony Xperia XA3 might launch in January during CES 2019. It’s also possible that the device could launch before the end of 2018, and it’s expected that the handset will be accompanied by the Xperia XA3 Ultra.
