Ever since Patrick Stewart announced that he will be reprising his role in a new “Star Trek” series with his character Jean-Luc Picard at the center, there has been huge anticipation by the fan base. The scripts of the TV series are currently being written, and now there is news about the release date.

While speaking at the UBS’ Annual Global Media and Communications Conference in New York, the Chief Creative Officer of CBS Corporation David Nevins teased some details about the projects currently in development, including the new Picard series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While he didn’t reveal anything substantial about projects like the “Twilight Zone” reboot and “The Good Fight,” he did tease about what they are doing with “Star Trek.”

Dishing on the highly successful “Star Trek: Discovery” series, Nevins said that it is in a “great place.” CBS has also been releasing short films in-between seasons called “Short Treks,” and this will apparently continue.

As for the new Picard series, Nevins said that there is a “huge anticipation” for the show and that the new “Star Trek” series will premiere at the end of 2019.

Stewart is not only a cast member of the new show, but he is also the executive producer. He previously shared a picture of the writer’s room of the TV series on Twitter, showing a diverse group of people who have been brought together to write the scripts.

After the scripts are ready, the show should begin production by early next year. In a previous interview with Trek Movie at the New York Comic Con, executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin said that they plan to begin production of the Picard series by April 2019. The plan, at the time, was to premiere by early 2020.

Since the Picard series is expected to now air by the end of 2019 instead of 2020, it is safe to assume that the writing is going well and the production will begin as scheduled. Casting announcements should start surfacing online early next year.

As far as the characters are concerned, Picard will not be meeting anyone from the “Discovery” series. Kurtzman has already confirmed that Stewart’s show will be a standalone that will not crossover with the current, ongoing series.

Meanwhile, Stewart is keeping himself busy by supporting various social causes. In his recent tweet, the actor revealed that he spoke at a charity event to raise awareness about violence against women.
