“The Orville” Season 2 will see Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) and his team embarking on yet another adventure. And though fans will have to wait until the end of the month to watch the show, the official countdown for the premiere has already begun!

The Twitter page of the “The Orville” started the countdown to the release date of Season 2 with a poster of all the crew members of the ship. There are no noticeable changes in the costumes of the cast members, but they are sure to explore new planets and meet new alien creatures.

Mark Jackson, who plays Isaac in the series, revealed on Twitter that they have already started the promotion of the next season by chatting with the press. The actor said that the show is getting a lot of love from different countries, and he promised that the fans will get another “exciting” season ahead.

There will be a couple of new faces on the ship this time around. “Shameless” alum Jessica Szohr has joined “The Orville” Season 2, Deadline reported. She will be playing a crew member onboard the ship who will apparently be a series regular character. Other projects that Szohr has worked on include “Complications” and “Twin Peaks.”

Szohr will be sharing the screen with Leighton Meester in at least one of the episodes. Meester has been added as a guest star on the show, Entertainment Weekly reported. According to another Deadline report, “47 Meters Down” star Chris Johnson is also playing a recurring role in “The Orville” Season 2. Details about the character are currently being kept under wraps.

The trailer of “The Orville” Season 2 [see below] teases exciting new storylines, the most important of which is the crew making first contact with an alien planet. There will be the trademark humor that made the show such a big hit, along with some action sequences. The familiar enemy alien reptilian race Krill will be back and the crew will also enter a planet that looks very much like present-day Earth.

The first episode of “The Orville” season 2 will air on Fox on Dec. 30, which is a Sunday. But all the subsequent episodes will air on Thursdays, starting with the second episode that airs on Jan. 3, 2019. There will be a total of 14 episodes, which is two more than the first season. The titles and plot synopsis of each episode should be released in the coming days.
