J.J. Abrams newest blockbuster feature “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” has divided fans and critics alike, with many of the two loving the conclusion to the saga and others expressing their disapproval. This disapproval has since developed into something new, as fans are now demanding that Disney releases the “J.J. Abrams cut” of the film.

Fans have assumed, via unsubstantiated online forum posts on Reddit, that there is a different cut of the “Star Wars” movie -- a version that aligns with their desired outcome. “#ReleaseTheJJCut” is, at press time, one of the top trending topics on Twitter due to the “Star Wars” fans numerous demands to fix the movie’s supposed problems.

This follows directly after two events. The first occurred after “Star Wars” actor John Boyega, who played Finn, had fun with “Star Wars” fans and teased them about the outcry following the film’s release (via Cinemablend). The second came when Oscar Isaac, who played Poe Dameron, made an off-hand remark about “Disney overlords” being opposed to the idea of a Poe and Finn gay romance.

All of this comes out after a similar campaign last year, when it was speculated that there was a “Snyder Cut” for the equally divisive film “Justice League.” It turned out to be, at least to some degree, true, as Snyder soon started using the hashtag “#ReleaseTheSnyderCut.” The filmmaker is currently working on editing together his version of the movie.

These two factors are what likely led to what seems like mass confusion regarding the existence of such a version of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

Since New Years Day, these rumors of a “J.J. Abrams cut” of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” have spread all over Twitter, with users retweeting the unverified claims with much excitement and/or outrage. Screen Rant reports that some of these supposed original cut plot details involved a Force ghost Hayden Christensen playing Anakin Skywalker and an alternate ending that involved Kylo Ren, a.k.a Ben Solo (Adam Driver) dying.

At press time, Abrams hasn’t responded to the trending hashtag.
