Ahead of Super Tuesday, Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar canceled a campaign event in her home state of Minnesota after protestors took the stage. Planned to take place in a St. Louis Park high school gymnasium, the protestors took to the stage, chanting “Free Myon” and carrying “Black Lives Matter” signs, referring to an old murder case from Klobuchar’s time as Hennepin County Attorney.

Myon Burrell was sentenced to life in prison in 2002 for the murder of 11-year-old Tyesha Edwards. Recent evidence has arisen suggesting that Burrell, who was a teenager at the time, was innocent of the crime, and Burrell himself has in the past said the Klobuchar gave police “free rein” to get a conviction without regard for evidence.

“That's what the district attorney's job is, is to either charge or not charge,” Burrell said “You never took the time to look into this case. You never took the time to go and actually see, is this true or is this false? You know what I mean?”

Klobuchar has said that the case should be reviewed immediately.

According to campaign manager Justin Buoen, Klobuchar had offered to meet with the organizers of the protest and discuss the issue, but negotiations were cut off when the protestors decided against the meeting.

“We had a negotiation and had an agreement with the organizers of the protest to meet with the senator on site,” Buoen said. “She was in the room ready to meet with them and then they changed the terms and decided that they didn't want to meet with her. Really wish that we would have been able to one, do the meeting, and listen to the protesters, but also have the event.”

Minnesota is among the 14 states holding primaries on Tuesday, dubbed “Super Tuesday” for the number of delegates awarded and the day’s impact on the nomination of presidential candidates.

Klobuchar, despite major endorsements from the likes of the New York Times, has largely floundered in pursuit of the 2020 Democratic nomination. She has so far only won the lowest number of delegates, 7, amongst the candidates that have secured any at all. She placed the highest in the New Hampshire primary, finishing third behind Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg.
