Melissa Benoist as Supergirl
“Queen of the South” actor Peter Gadiot is reportedly playing Mr. Mxyzptlk on “Supergirl.” The CW

“Supergirl” might have already found its Mr. Mxyzptlk. In a report published by YVRShoots on Thursday, Jan. 5, the website named Peter Gadiot as the actor who will play Mr. Mxyzptlk on the CW series.

Gadiot, who portrays James Valdez in USA Network’s “Queen of the South,” was spotted filming a scene with Melissa Benoist in downtown Vancouver’s Hornby Plaza on Thursday afternoon. It’s unclear what the scene is all about, but as seen in a couple of shots obtained by the YVRShoots, it seems that the Girl of Steel and Gadiot’s character are in the middle of an argument. See some of the set photos below:

Although Warner Bros. TV and The CW have yet to confirm Gadiot’s casting as Mr. Mxyzptlk, a photo captured by a fan strongly suggests that the 31-year-old English actor could really be playing the DC Comics prankster.

Mr. Mxyzptlk’s upcoming appearance on “Supergirl” was first revealed by Comicbook.com last month. In the comics, Mr. Mxyzptlk is a manipulative imp from the 5th Dimension who loves to annoy Superman. Although not actually evil and doesn’t inflict any long-term damage, Mr. Mxyzptlk relentlessly pesters and proves that he’s smarter than the Kryptonian. Mr. Mxyzptlk can only be made to return to the 5th Dimension when he’s tricked into saying his own name backwards “Kltpzyxm.”

Does Mr. Mxyzptlk’s appearance mean that Tyler Hoechlin is going to reprise his role as Superman in the CW series? Only time will tell.

In an interview with TVLine, executive producer Ali Adler said that Mr. Mxyzptlk is a “really funny character.” “We’re going to get a lot of that humor,” she added.

“Supergirl” returns from its midseason hiatus on Monday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Watch the trailer for Season 2 episode 9, titled “Supergirl Lives,” below:
