“S.W.A.T.” Season 3 is coming to an end tonight, and fans are wondering if that’s the end for the Shemar Moore drama. Luckily, CBS has already decided whether the series is canceled or renewed.

Viewers don’t have to worry about cancellation. “S.W.A.T.” was renewed for Season 4 earlier this month, but fans will have to wait a while to see the new episodes. CBS announced that it’ll be a midseason show.

Due to the current health crisis, many scripted shows won’t air until midseason. The good news is that Season 4 will include the story that was supposed to be in the Season 3 finale. Production was shut down early, so the season is one episode short.

“S.W.A.T.” showrunner Shawn Ryan told TVLine that the finale was supposed to be an episode about the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and it would include flashbacks. They aren’t going to ditch the episode, though.

“[The planned finale] will probably become either our season premiere or an early episode in Season 4,” Ryan revealed. “But we will get around to filming that episode, because that’s a special one, to look back at the riots through the perspective of a teenage Hondo.”

Instead, the makeshift “S.W.A.T.” Season 3 finale is an episode titled “Diablo.” After a plane crash, Hondo (Moore) and his team have to work with the DEA to find the drug smugglers who caused the accident and escaped from the scene of the crime.

Elsewhere in the finale, “Hondo tries to make amends with Nichelle (Rochelle Aytes), Luca (Kenny Johnson) experiences anxiety about his return to the field, and Deacon (Jay Harrington) hesitates when asked to speak to a group of recruits about mental health,” according to the CBS synopsis.

The “S.W.A.T.” Season 3 finale airs Wednesday, May 20 on CBS at 10 p.m. EDT.
