T-Mobile announced its Tablet on Us offer Friday. Customers availing the offer can get a Samsung Galaxy Tab E or LG G Pad X 8.0 on a T-Mobile Equipment Installment Plan effectively for free if they subscribe to the T-Mobile ONE plan or any mobile internet plan from the company offering at least 6GB of high-speed data.

“T-Mobile will cover the full cost with a monthly bill credit-and you've got yourself a slick new tablet for FREE. And you've got it on the nation's fastest 4G LTE network,” the company said in its official press release announcing the offer.

Customers need to visit the T-Mobile website or physical store and opt for the carrier Equipment Installment Plan to avail the offer, which is limited to U.S.-based consumers. Once they buy the tablet, essentially by agreeing to the installments, they will need to opt for either a T-Mobile ONE plan or any plan that offers 6GB or more mobile internet data. T-Mobile will simply stop charging you for the installments if you are on the plan.

If you opt for a T-Mobile ONE plan, you can add a $20 a month credit with AutoPay and get unlimited mobile data. The press release mentions that it is a limited-time offer, but does not mention when it ends.

While T-Mobile is basically tying you up to a data plan and giving you a tablet for it, the tablets on offer could actually be worth consideration — the LG G Pad X 8.0 comes with voice calling, has an 8-inch full HD display, 2GB RAM and a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and the Samsung Galaxy Tab E comes with a 9.6-inch display HD display, 1.5GB RAM and an unspecified 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU.

The LG tablet seems the better option out of the two since it's a newer model with better specs.
