A 40-year-old Las Vegas middle school teacher has been accused of sending sexually explicit videos of himself to a student and attempting to touch her over a span of several months, court documents revealed.

Police arrested Nicholas Collotta last week on charges of child sexual abuse or exploitation with substantial bodily harm and lewdness with a child, KLAS reported.

Collotta taught literary studies and history at Democracy Preparatory Academy at Agassi on W. Lake Mead Boulevard. School officials told the news outlet Collotta was fired on the day of his arrest.

The teacher was arrested after police received a report from a student that accused Collotta of sending her a video of himself masturbating. He also asked her about her sexual history and attempted to touch her, according to the arrest report.

The student said she met Collotta when she was in seventh grade. According to the student, she and Collotta first communicated through his work phone and later via his personal number.

"According to [the student] Collotta would tell her things about his sexual history during his time in college," the report said. "When Collotta would tell [the student] something personal, he would ask for her to tell him something personal in return to manipulate her."

The report said Collotta taught a boxing class and asked the student to "stay after class" and give him "seven seconds" to touch her. During one alleged incident, the student told police Collotta wanted to check if the student had suffered a broken rib and ran "his hand under her clothing and under her breast."

Detectives found a message where "Collotta asked for a 'full body photo'" while searching the student's phone for evidence. "Am I never going to see you naked?" another message asked.

The school's executive director, Adamn Johnson, said in a statement, "We are deeply disturbed by these most serious allegations," according to KLAS.

"We will do everything we can to support their investigation and encourage anyone with any information that can aide the investigators to contact the LVMPD," Johnson said. "We are here to support our scholars, families and staff at this difficult time."

A court document said Collotta told police during his arrest that "this had happened before when he worked in Phoenix," but failed to elaborate further, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Collotta remains in custody on $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday for a hearing.
